Baltimore is experiencing its first major snowstorm of the season today, Monday, January 6, 2025. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning in effect until 1:00 AM EST on Tuesday, January 7.
As of this morning, approximately four inches of snow have already fallen in Baltimore, with total accumulations expected to reach between 6 to 10 inches.
In response to the storm, Maryland Governor Wes Moore and Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott have declared a state of emergency, urging residents to stay off the roads due to hazardous conditions. The Baltimore City Department of Transportation has been actively pre-treating and plowing roads; however, untreated and unplowed roads may become impassable.
The storm has also led to significant travel disruptions, including the cancellation of over 1,000 flights nationwide, with Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport among the most affected.
Residents are advised to monitor local news outlets and official city channels for updates on weather conditions and city services. If travel is necessary, exercise extreme caution and consider keeping an emergency kit in your vehicle.
Stay safe, Baltimore!
